cheers for the people’s president
“This country needs him and this world needs him.”
By John Charles Reedburg
It feels like the world already knew.
I’m sure after all of his campaigning, BARACK OBAMA is glad to be home – and Chicagoans are happy to receive him. Fox reported that a million people are expected in Grant Park to attend Obama’s election night rally, which they expect to be a victory bash. As of now, Obama has won 174 electoral votes to John McCain’s 69, and Obama supporters heard some good news when the Democratic nominee won the swing state Pennsylvania. Illinois’ Secretary of State Jesse White said:
“He comes across to me as being the people’s president, the one who has love in his heart for everyone. He’s a breath of fresh air. This country needs him and this world needs him.”
Organizers sold only 65,000 tickets to the rally to Obama supporters, but people without tickets will be watching from Butler Field. Already 15,000 people have shown up to Butler Field. The event starts at 8 p.m., but zealous fans started arriving this afternoon.

Security is tight at the rally, with policemen shutting down nearby streets and circling overhead in helicopters. Clear bulletproof panes were placed around the podium where Obama will address the audience.
Looking at these pictures from the rally, it’s clear that these people know they are about to witness and make a crucial piece of history. Crowds are shouting, people are scrambling to get closer, and spirits are at an all-time high.
