MUY CALIENTE!: LATINO GRAMMY AWARDS

Hott!, boiling, and never out of steam?

Well,it depends on who you ask –

SINGER REMI arrives at the 9th annual Latin GRAMMY awards held at the Toyota Center on November 13, 2008 in Houston.

I should’ve called this one the good, the bad, and the muy feo.

LOL! I’m just serious – as Hell!

After the disappointingly subdued costuming at the 42nd Annual Country Music Awards earlier this week, I had begun to worry that all the best awards shows had suddenly lost their flair. No diamond-studded bolero ties? No purposefully visible leopard-print undergarments? Quel horror!

But the 9th Annual Latin GRAMMY Awards, which took place last night in Houston, brought back my faith in bonafide red carpet no-nos. Some performers showed up in clown paint (see above and below), while others could have benefitted from little costuming.

So maybe the guys above really are clowns. What are they doing at the Grammys? That’s just the latin flavor for you.

Not all the dresses were terrible.

BARBARA PALACIOS arrived in a spangled, curve-hugging bronze gown. While I’m not crazy about the color, it’s definitely a glamorous look.

Gloria Estefan would have looked lovely if: A. she didn’t look so uncomfortable. B. her dress were any other color than a dull green. I rather like the poofy train near her feet; it helps balance a silhouette that could look a tad hippy.

Puerto Rican singer-songwriter EDNITA NAZARIO looked very pretty in this simple silver gown with a matching stole, although her chest looks mighty packed into that bodice.

I guess some women are comfortable having their breasts rub against their chins.

I really like singer JULIETA VENEGAS’ sparkly black dress. It’s a sweet, hip, fresh cut that’s sparkly enough to please the Latin GRAMMY crowd. She’s a winner.

It’s a lot classier than anything las CHICAS de CANELA produced:

Doesn’t the woman on the left remind you of the evil licorice man from the Candyland game?

Singer DANNI CARLOS couldn’t lay off the eyeliner and white pancake makeup long enough to pull off this soft-hued dress:

But even with her botched makeup job, she still managed to look classier than Mexican rocker ALEJANDRA GUZMAN.

Her unfortunate dress seems to be made solely of rayon, tulle, and chicken feathers. Her bizarro red carpet expression definitely isn’t helping the situation, either.
