And he’s still at it!
Four years after a stroke, DICK CLARK is relishing the prospect of another New Year’s Eve celebration, determined to appear for his 36th year in Times Square. And he’s hardly surprised by the current state of the music industry he helped build — he predicted this, after all.
Clark, who turned 79 last month and has been in front of the cameras for 61 years, said in a recent interview by e-mail that his involvement in “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest 2009,” diminished though it may be, is a labor of love and “not really a job.”
“Obviously, I’m not able to be as actively involved as I used to be out on the street, up on a platform and interacting with the crowds in Times Square” in New York, Clark wrote. “Thank goodness my friend Ryan Seacrest is able to handle that end of the activity on the show these days.
Dick Clark poses with singers Alicia Keys and Usher at the 2008 American Music Awards.
ABC-TV’s 3 1/2-hour live extravaganza will include performances by Natasha Bedingfield, Fall Out Boy, Jesse McCartney, Ne-Yo, Pussycat Dolls, Solange and Robin Thicke. Fergie hosts the Hollywood segments.
Clark woke up with right-side paralysis on Dec. 6, 2004 — “Your life changes overnight,” he said. (Regis Philbin filled in for Clark on the New Year’s Eve show that year.) Clark still uses a walker or wheelchair, and speaking is difficult.
“I am one of the fortunate ones who survived and have been minimally impaired, so I’m just thankful I’m still able to enjoy this once-a-year treat of bringing in the New Year.”
The “American Bandstand” icon and longtime producer of the American Music Awards, Academy of Country Music Awards and Golden Globes has long considered them “my television kids.”
He’s also watched their ratings plummet in recent years.
“There was a time when they attracted a huge audience,” Clark wrote. “The audiences have dropped off as the years have gone by because of increasing television competition.
“What we are seeing is more and more talent and less emphasis on people getting awards. Television’s award shows have now become gigantic showcases for variety.”

Clark was there at the birth of rock ‘n’ roll (”American Bandstand” kicked off July 9, 1956), and he’s watched dramatic changes in the music industry. Not that those changes would come as much of a surprise.

“I can remember writing an article several years ago where I let my imagination run wild,” Clark wrote. “I said we’d see the day when music is delivered directly to our homes, and delivered to us in some form of wireless communication.
“The fun of actually holding a record in our hands will disappear and we’ll all have our own individual library of our favorite songs that we’ll listen to at home, at work, in the car wherever we happen to go.”
These days, Clark divides his time between his Malibu home and Burbank office. There’s an hourlong therapy session each morning, then he answers mail and phone calls, attends meetings and reads.
The day ends with his devoted wife Kari.
“My wife and I may join friends for dinner at a restaurant, attend a movie or just grab a bite to eat by ourselves away from home,” Clark wrote. “Occasionally, we’ll attend a music concert. Recently we’ve seen Barry Manilow, Bette Midler, Frankie Valli and Cher.”

OK folks, this may be a publicity stunt after only selling 40 thousand copies of his album the first week.
But really, some of the stuff that he’s saying in this video — will definitely comeback to haunt him.
My advice to Soulja Boy is if you wanted to get media attention. You could’ve just gave another shout out to the slave masters. That probably would’ve work. But another thought is for the record company. Like, why don’t the head of A&R arrange for this kid to take some classes in media training. LOL!
BTW, if I was Nas or Lil’ Wayne, I wouldn’t even waste my time responding. This kid just killed himself. Seriously.
Here’s a quoted excerpt from the video above:
“That’s like — see how George Bush f-cked up America, same way with Nas did with Hip Hop … see how Lil Wayne came back and sold a million albums in a week and proved Nas wrong … see how Barack Obama coming.. how he won, they say it couldn’t be no black president and look at all the haters he had … he became the first black president and now he sh-tting on George Bush. It’s like Lil Wayne sold a million albums in a week after Nas said Hip Hop is Dead. But he didn’t say nigga Nas Ima sh-t on you because you said Hip Hop is dead … I respect that n-gga for that.”

Bristol Palin (R), daughter of Republican U.S vice-presidential nominee Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, holds brother Trig Palin while sitting next to her boyfriend Levi Johnston on day four of the Republican National Convention (RNC) at the Xcel Energy Center on September 4, 2008 in St. Paul, Minnesota.

Wow-sers! Like what’s up with the Palins and all of the teenage pregnancy.
Score none for the conspiracy theorists who said BRISTOL PALIN wasn’t really pregnant: People reports the eldest Palin daughter, 18, gave birth to a baby boy yesterday in Palmer, Alaska. In keeping with her parents’ tradition of unique names, Bristol named her son (with boyfriend of three years Levi Johnston, also 18) TRIP EASTON MITCHELL JOHNSTON.
Levi Johnston told the Associated Press several months ago that he and Bristol planned to be wed in 2009. He is currently studying to become an electrician, while she is working towards her high school diploma through correspondence classes.
Congratulations to Bristol and Levi – and, of course, to Gov. Palin. She may not be our next Vice President, but it’s pretty exciting to become a grandmother, too. From this point forward the Palins should take a step away from politics and stick with the breeding. LOL!

Grace Jones onstage at the MTV Europe Music Awards, held at the Echo Arena on November 6, 2008 in Liverpool, England.

She was far from eye candy but definitely Hott! in her day.
”Models are there to look like mannequins, not like real people. Art and illusion are supposed to be fantasy. – Grace Jones
Jamaican-born GRACE JONES was once a successful fashion model – she even landed a Vogue cover – but she never took modeling too seriously. She stopped getting jobs after she shaved her eyebrows and shaved her head…and really began to make her mark on fashion. With her height, striking features, and outrageous stage costumes and demeanor, Jones was the physical representation of the ’80s power diva.
CAREER PROPS.
Grace Jones had a string of successful disco albums in the late ’70s, which helped her to become one of the most popular fixtures on the New York club scene (she was Andy Warhol’s muse). In the early ’80s, she and her then-boyfriend Jean-Paul Goude transformed her look, adopting the shoulder-padded, flat-topped androgyny that landed her roles in Conan the Destroyer and A View to Kill.
CAREER FLOPS.
Between 1989’s Bulletproof Heart and 2008’s Hurricane, Jones went nearly twenty years without releasing an album. Her record company, Island, was bought out by Universal, which favored repackaging her greatest hits over releasing new material. Jones made up for the lack of exposure by punching up the crazy.
LEGACY.
The popularity of Jones’ daring, gender-bending look was a sign of the times. At the height of Jones’ popularity in the early ’80s, women were joining the workforce in record numbers. Many of them sported heavily tailored, mannish suits with shoulder pads and wide pant legs – androgynous looks that might not have infiltrated popular culture, had it not been for Jones.
Forget Tyra: Grace Jones is still the fiercest lady on the red carpet.
Jones’ look is about drama. If you choose to dress like old school Grace Jones, wear a severely tailored suit with dramatic hair and eye makeup. These days Jones tends to avoid the suits, choosing instead to appear masked, caped, or inappropriately hatted. Basically: dress like a glitter-loving superhero.
Anyhow, for all of you true Grace Jones fans. Check out the throwback music video below.

Wow-sers! Last week I reported that they were getting a divorce. And I still believe they are. I’ll trust my intuition before I trust their propaganda.
Anyways, here’s the latest news.
Despite a new round of divorce rumors, JENNIFER LOPEZ and MARC ANTHONY are still happily married and plan to stay that way. At least that’s the latest word from their PR peeps.
Responding to an item published in the New York Daily News, which predicted a post-Valentine’s Day breakup for the pair, Anthony’s rep said, “None of the rumors are true.”
As for Lopez, her publicist, Leslie Sloane Zelnik, put an end to the “one last duet before they say goodbye” story by telling E! News, “There is no merit to the article.”
