Hmm, I don’t see the big deal.

Dr. JOSYANN ABISAAB has been suspended from her job and could face criminal charges for not reporting PLAXICO BURRESS’ gunshot wound to police.

Abisaab treated Burress at New York Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center Nov. 28, 2008, after the New York Giants wide receiver accidentally shot himself in the leg while out at a night club. Abisaab had been in contact with Giants officials, but failed to notify police of the shooting, as required by New York State Law.

According to the state spanision of Criminal Justice Services, there have been only three such arrests since 2000 for violating state law that requires every gunshot wound or powder burn, as well as every wound from a knife, ice pick or other sharp object be reported to police by an attending physician or hospital official.

One of those cases, in Suffolk County, resulted in a conviction in 2006. The same year a case in Brooklyn resulted in a dismissal, and four years earlier, a case in Westchester resulted in a plea to a public health law charge, according to DCJS. Police also want to know why Burress’ teammate ANTONIO PIERCE (who drove him to the hospital) didn’t report the incident.

Until more details emerge, it isn’t clear whether Abisaab and Pierce intentionally avoided telling authorities about the incident.
