Last year, filmmaker ADRIA PETTY’s documentary Paris, Not France debuted at the Toronto Film Festival to little fanfare; critics bashed the project, which followed celebutante PARIS HILTON on a whirlwind promotional tour around the globe, as “uninteresting and whitewashed.”

The trailer, posted below, makes it seem like the editors tried very hard to accurately depict how warped this woman’s life is (and how tragic her supposed aspirations of being taken seriously are). Cue the serious docu-music and the black-and-white voyeuristic shots.

Needless to say, the internet backlash hath begun. Maybe it’s because the audience is supposed to empathize with someone who bemoans not being like Princess Diana.
