A: “I’m mostly inspired by life.”

KYONTE (pronounced Key-yon-tay) creates and delivers quality yet timeless music relative to his personal experiences. Whether creating in the studio or delivering up close and personal on stage, Kyonté is a charismatic enigma whose performance wets your appetite for good music. In this Hott and Raw Exclusive, DATZHOTT caught up with DMV’s golden boy for a quick phone interview between recording sessions as he talks about his start in the music industry and the coming together of his debut album.

WHAT’s HOTT!!! ABOUT KYONTE!?!
A plethora of surprises!!!
Growing up in Washington, DC, Kyonté began singing at the age of three. By the age of ten, his ability to play the piano and construct melodies enchanted the hearts of most people he came in contact with. As a teenager, he was busy accompanying colleagues and performing at weddings, churches and other events.
Kyonté’s love of music is depicted by his list of stellar artists that influence his music such as Sam Cooke, Marvin Gaye, Prince, Bootsy Collins, Parliament, Donny Hathaway, Willie Hutch, Michael Jackson, Luther Vandross, Imogen Heap, Minnie Riperton, Nina Simone, Earth Wind and Fire, Bob Marley, Issac Hayes, and the list goes on.

Fueled by his passion for music, he began to pursue a musical career in 2001. An array of performances at various events and venues such as Fox 5 Morning News, Blues Alley, Bohemian Caverns, R&B Live DC at Posh, Heineken Red Star Soul, Takoma Station Jazz Tavern, MCCXXIII (1223), the African American Festival and the Black Family Reunion on the mall in Washington, DC, served as catalysts to build his strong loyal following.

A talented singer and songwriter, he has added producer to his many lists of talents. In 2005, Kyonté began working with super producer Chucky Thompson, Trakfire Productions, and PRS Musik. Through these impressive collaborations, in 2007 Kyonté co-produced the Grammy-nominated single “Woman” by Raheem DeVaughn (Jive Records), co-wrote and co-produced “Lights Go Out” for Foxy Brown (Koch Records), and co-produced “Hearts Desire” for Brent Jones (EMI Gospel).

Kyonté released his first EP titled Body Shop in 2008 and is currently writing and recording for his debut album, collaborating with an exceptional team of writers and producers. His talent and dedication, is sure to deliver a variety of quality songs that will only enhance his reputation of providing music that will remain in your thoughts long after the concert has ended.
