Better known to fans as MCA, Yauch posted a video to the band’s website saying he has been diagnosed with cancer of the salivary glands, but that the disease is “very treatable in most cases.“

ADAM YAUCH, one of founding members of the Beastie Boys, announced via a video posted to the group’s website that he will be receiving treatment for cancer.
He also announced that the group will be canceling shows this summer, including appearances at several major music festivals.
In the video, which opens with Yauch chuckling, “So, this is crazy,” the musician says he felt a small lump in his throat two months ago. Doctors have since discovered cancer in his salivary glands, as well as a lymph node.
Yauch says that the cancer is “very treatable in most cases.” Smiling wryly, Yauch notes, “The good news is that they did scans of my whole body and it’s only localized this one place, and it’s not in a place that affects my voice, so that’s nice.”
Speaking to fans, Yauch says, “I apologize to everybody, for anyone who’s made plans or was psyched to come to these shows that are coming up. We’ll be back doing this, so that’s what’s up.”
