MTV has announced the nominees for the 2009 Video Music Awards, and newcomer Lady Gaga has cleaned up across the board. She and Beyonce Knowles lead the way with no less than nine nominations each, while Britney Spears comes in second place with seven nods. Still, among veterans like Beyonce and Brit, Gaga has to be thrilled with her showing.
Miss Gaga’s been nominated in the following categories:
Video of the Year, for “Poker Face”
Best New Artist
Best Female Video, for “Poker Face”
Best Pop Video, for “Poker Face”
Best Direction, for “Paparazzi”
Best Editing, for “Paparazzi”
Best Special Effects, for “Paparazzi”
Best Cinematography, for “Paparazzi”
Best Art Direction, for “Paparazzi”

We believe in the immensity and the promise of ’showbiz’ and will continue to give it mouth-to-mouth, till its vomiting return. All you need is a camcorder, a flashlight and one truly great idea. Thank you, MTV, for being our video flagship, and for supporting this bunch of inspired kids, who love to get wasted and make art together. A bizarre statement, to be sure, but we’d expect no less from this Lady. Now, how many actual wins will she score? Enough to beat out Beyonce? Tune into the VMAs on Sept. 13 to find out.
