style="color: #ff0000;">It’s been 14 years since “The Boy Is Mine” stormed the airwaves. Was this song worth the wait?
Neither Brandy nor Monica has spent much time on the charts lately, perhaps because they’re stronger when they combine forces. Enter “It All Belongs to Me,” a follow-up to “The Boy Is Mine” 14 years in the making.
A lot has changed since the summer of 1998, when their dramatic, funkified bickering was ubiquitous for a solid 13 weeks. The ladies are no longer taking issue with one another, but with some nameless ex who apparently owns very little. The Rico Love-produced single, which includes a cheesy Facebook reference and enough trills to satisfy a Christina Aguilera fan, has the spirit of “Irreplaceable” but sadly, lacks the hook. It’s been 14 years, ladies—why’d you settle for this?
The song will be featured on both Monica’s New Life, in stores April 10, and Brandy’s upcoming album, which is slated for a spring 2012 release.
