PETA continues to get sexy celebrities to drop trou for its anti-fur campaign. Actress NIA LONG is the latest to join the animal-loving organization’s “I’d Rather Go Naked Than Wear Fur” campaign, posing suggestively in a subway car.

“There’s no difference, in my opinion, [between fur and] slavery or the Holocaust,” Long said. “It’s just that we’re not dealing with human beings, we’re dealing with animals, but it’s still a living thing.”

OPRAH! IS NOW ON TWITTER!

The Queen of daytime television is jumping on the Twit-wagon, which means Twitter is totally like a mainstream thing now

Damn! I wish I could get this big one day!

OPRAH WINFREY became the latest celebrity to jump on the Twitter wagon today with a page that has reached (at the time of this writing) 49,915 followers before she’s even written her first tweet.

Oprah plans to make her first tweet on her show Friday, thus officially rendering Twitter a mainstream phenomenon. Twitter has grown by leaps and bounds lately, ranking as the fastest growing Web site in 2008 by Nielson, with a popularity driven by a mix of word-of-mouth and celebrity usage. While the company has been unavoidable in the news lately, Oprah’s account is the shove over the top that situates the Web site squarely in the mainstream zeitgeist.

Twitter co-founders Evan Williams and Biz Stone are both excited about the development. Evan (@ev) writes “Yes, the ‘big day’ tomorrow is due to @Oprah. Catch @aplusk [Ashton Kutcher] on the show (and follow him if you don’t already!) Oh: I’ll be there too! .”

But not everyone thinks turning Twitter into a massive celebrity-driven PR device is a good idea. Chalk it up to naysaying if you like, but PC Magazine’s Lance Ulanoff has a good argument for why this could be the beginning of the end for Twitter. Ulanoff says Twitter is so valuable because it provides a perfect format for the quick exchange of ideas, but it’s being taken over by celebs and businesses who do nothing by promote themselves. In response to Williams’ enthusiasm, Ulanoff writes:

“Doesn’t he know what Oprah fan interest will do to Twitter? First, the service will crash, over and over again. The Fail Whale will rule tomorrow. Then it will recover and get bigger than ever, but with more Twitter users like Ashton and Oprah, it will ultimately be hollow on the inside, just like a bubble. And we know what happens to them.”

As close to a fantasy as possible.

It’s official — FERGIE and JOSH DUHAMEL are both off the market.

The couple said, “I do,” Saturday afternoon at the Church Estates Vineyards in Malibu, People reported.

The 33-year-old bride wore a Dolce and Gabbana gown and carried a bouquet of white flowers.

Duhamel, 36, and Fergie exchanged vows during a 30-minute ceremony in front of about 200 to 300 guests that included Mario Lopez and new parents Jerry O’Connell and Rebecca Romijn, Radaronline.com reported.

“They were married as a 14-piece classical orchestra played in the background,” one source told Radar. “It was beautiful.”

According to People, the ceremony was followed by a reception in a tent decorated as a forest of trees, with the ceiling covered in lights.

Among the invited guests were new parents Rebecca Romijn and Jerry O’Connell, Mario Lopez, Stacy Keibler, Kid Rock, Slash, Kate Hudson (Fergie’s costar in her upcoming movie Nine), the members of Black Eyed Peas including will.i.am, and Duhamel’s Las Vegas costars James Caan, Molly Sims and Vanessa Marcil.

Also expected were Duhamel’s family, who flew in from his home state North Dakota. “His family are so excited,” says a friend of the couple. “They really love Fergie and are so happy to welcome her to the family.”

Fergie, aka Stacey Ferguson, who has been working out to prepare for her wedding, “has lost all the weight,” says a source. “She looked amazing.”

The wedding week kicked off Wednesday night with a joint bachelor-bachelorette party at the newly opened Dakota Lounge in Santa Monica, followed by a Hawaiian-themed rehearsal dinner on Friday.

“Josh is a great guy,” says Mario Lopez, who shared his first kiss with Fergie as kids and later became close friends with the singer. “They will be great together.”

Other guests seen arriving to Fergie’s wedding to Josh Duhamel were Cee-Lo, Slash, Jerry O’Connell, Rebecca Romijn and Wilmer Valderrama just to name a few. We have some pics of them arriving below.

It’s hard times for everybody. Stop whining! Be happy that the man won.

Obama’s campaign exclaims that most of the payment issues that brought hundreds of upset campaign workers to the Indianapolis office Wednesday have been resolved. Campaign spokesman JONATHAN SWAIN says a few people showed up Thursday and made arrangements for payment by mail. A few hundred people stood in line for several hours Wednesday waiting to get paid for working in the final days of the campaign. Many of those people said they were underpaid for the number of hours they worked.”

Volunteers in other cities are experiencing the same problem. Some imply that they are experiencing a post-campaign letdown, whether they were winners or losers on Election Day.

“I’m really sad it’s ending,” said Obama volunteer Stephanie Chan, 21, a senior at University of California, Berkeley. “I’m not sure what I’m going to do now.”

Alan Kennedy-Shaffer, 24, of Mechanicsburg, Pa., already misses the campaign trail. He took a semester off from law school at William & Mary to work on the campaigns for President-elect Barack Obama, Mark Warner and Bill Day.

It’s so hard to know what I’ll do with myself now that the campaign is over,” he said.

After weeks, months or years with a single-minded mission, many dedicated campaign workers and volunteers are feeling lost. Some are left looking for jobs in a tumbling economy.

It’s unclear whether the young voters who favored Obama were mobilized for the long haul, said political scientist Michael Leo Owens. But mental health professionals say the best way for them to combat letdown is to make a commitment to get involved.

“I think both sides have a lot of opportunities to keep their momentums alive,” said Dr. Charles Raison, an assistant professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences at Emory University School of Medicine.

It’s that time of year again, folks.

Today at the Beverly Hills Hotel, pop singer JESSE McCARTHNEY and funnyman JIMMY KIMMEL revealed the nominees for the 36th annual American Music Awards. Herewith, are the top five contenders who scored the most nods:

Alicia Keys: 5 nominations
Coldplay: 4 nominations
The Eagles: 4 nominations
Lil Wayne: 3 nominations
Chris Brown: 3 nominations

This year’s ceremony will be held at the Nokia Theater in downtown Los Angeles on Nov. 23, with Kimmel returning as host for his fifth straight year. The show will be telecast “live” as a three-hour prime-time special on ABC, featuring performances by the Jonas Brothers, Pink, and New Kids on the Block, among others.

OK. Let’s keep it real: What’s the deal with this show? Jesse McCartney? The Eagles? Is it just me or are the AMAs a bit out of touch? Where’s Britney, Mariah, Beyoncé, Rihanna, or Katy Perry? Don’t get me wrong, I heart Alicia Keys’ As I Am, but that CD is so last year (it literally dropped in Nov. 2007). Plus, we’ve already seen the JBs and Pink perform at the VMAs. And in terms of credibility, don’t the Grammys hold more weight? When was the last time you heard someone brag about winning an American Music Award? On a scale of 1-10, with 1 being the most prestigious/relevant, how would you rate the AMAs?
