HOTT RUSH!

Russell! Russell! Russell!

RUSSELL SIMMONS features in the latest issue of Hamptons Magazine,  and talks about his charity work.

The hip-hop and fashion legend opens up to the magazine about how he’s carved a new role for himself as philanthropy icon and how he is transforming lives through art.
When it comes to giving back, the soulful Simmons tells the Hamptons mag that, “All charities are struggling a little bit right now. When people stop giving, it’s good to remind them that just because you lost money in the market that day doesn’t mean you stop giving to the poor.”

Those words of wisdom are just the reason that Simmons will flex his charity muscles with the Art For Life Garden party benefit on July 18th in East Hampton. The event benefits Simmons’ Rush Philanthropic Arts Foundation, the organization he founded with his brothers, Danny and Joseph Simmons, that connects disadvantaged youth with art programs. Held at the private East Hampton Estate of Russell Simmons, this evening will once again celebrate the creative energy of New York City youth and honor exemplary individuals in the community, including Vanessa Williams, at a star-studded dinner and gala featuring live and silent auctions of unique art and luxury items.

“It’s nice to be around people you’re partners with and friends with,” Simmons tells Hamptons magazine, “It’s a great place for charity. There are a lot of wealthy people and good organizations.”

On celebrating 10 years of his charity, Art For Life, Simmons opens up to Niche Media’s Hamptons mag that, “It’s a cycle of giving.” He continues, “The more you get, the more you give, so its humbling. People like being able to play a good role.”

The Rush Philanthropic Arts Foundation was established by Russell Simmons and his brothers to direct funding to non-profit organizations who provide arts and education programming to New York City youth.

HOTT RUSH!

OK! Folks! This is the first post in a new category section of DATZHOTT! that we are totally dedicating to RUSSELL SIMMONS called HOTT RUSH!

Some of you may ask why are we dedicating a whole freakin’ section of DATZHOTT! to Russell Simmons? Simple … because … he’s BLACK! LOL!

And he’s RICH! And he is the only black dude who can rock a sweater and a ball cap and still look like a millionaire! THEREFORE, shout out to UNCLE RUSH for making black millionaires [excuse me! I mean d*mn near billionaires] … LOOK GOOD!

LATEST SCOOP ON RUSH! RUSSELL SIMMONS was named last month as the “goodwill ambassador’’ for a proposed memorial that would honor the victims of the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade.

Simmons received the honor May 20 at the United Nations headquarters in New York. The ceremony doubled as the official launch of the Trust Fund for the Permanent Memorial To Honor the Victims of Slavery and the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade.

The event’s organizers sought to refocus the attention of the international community on the horrific nature of slavery, the Trans-Atlantic slave trade and its legacy of discrimination.

The Permanent Mission of Jamaica to the United Nations, the Member States of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) and the African Union (AU), in collaboration with the UN Office for Partnerships and the UN Department for Public Information, co-hosted the event.

“It’s humbling to be invited to join the UN Community in this role as Goodwill Ambassador,’’ Simmons said in a prepared statement. “In recognizing the past, we understand the stakes in ensuring that something as devastating to the human condition as the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade will never happen again.’’

He continued, “My commitment in life is to be of service to the empowerment of young people living in struggle, who undoubtedly have been affected by this legacy. I look to the future with inspiration and faith as we work every day to bring freedom and equality to all young people around the world.”

Simmons, chairman and CEO of Rush Communications, where he consistently uses his influence in pop culture to benefit those who are living in struggling communities, “was an easy choice,” said

Ambassador Raymond O. Wolfe, Jamaica’s permanent representative to the United Nations and chairman of the Permanent Memorial Committee.

So far, the Trust Fund has raised about $250,000 of the $3.5 million that is required for the memorial’s construction. It is scheduled to be completed in 2012.

A pretty HOTT! move if you ask me! LOL!
