Should Blacks boycott companies who chooses not to market towards the urban consumer?

From an-e-mail, which cites Tom Joyner’s Morning Show as the source of information about NUD (Non Urban Dictate), “the acronym for a very subtle and little-known marketing term specifically directed toward people of color. ‘Non Urban Dictate’ These three words essentially mean that a company is not interested in the Black consumer.

A NUD label means that a company does not want their marketing and advertising materials placed in media that claim an urban audience (black folks) as their main target. There are legitimate reasons for companies not using urban radio. It may be that Blacks don’t index high in certain categories or that a company’s strategy is to market to the Black consumer down the road after they have established a strong position in their primary target. But, NUD usually means that a company is not interested in the Black consumer.

Companies evade discrimination liability by embracing it as theory rather than policy. As a service to Black consumers, the Urban Institute will list all companies that have a NUD policy.

Armed with this information, we feel that Black consumers will be able to make informed buying decisions.

A 16-year-old student at North Cobb High School has accused the school system of failing to protect him and stifling his identity after coming to school dressed in female attire. JONATHAN ESCOBAR recently relocated to Cobb County and left school on Sept. 30 after he says school officials told him to stop wearing women’s clothing. School officials said North Cobb did everything possible to accommodate Escobar, who was unwilling to cooperate.

“I’m an artist and this is my art,” Escobar told Southern Voice of his style of dress. Escobar said he doesn’t like to label his sexuality and is comfortable with either gender pronoun. Escobar said he attended North Cobb for three days in flats, tight jeans and simple shirts.

He said he did not wear anything that violated the dress code, but said he did come to school with a pink wig in his purse on Sept. 30 and later put it on. On Sept. 30 two students got into an argument about Escobar that led to a fight. Escobar and school officials differ on what happened after the fight. Escobar says the school told him to dress like a man or be home-schooled. The district says Escobar refused requests to wear something less disruptive.

A cornrow controversy has emerged in the Philadelphia Police Department after an OFFICER was pulled off street duty because of his hair cut.

The Daily News recently reported that the 35th District officer was placed on desk duty. The newspaper said the white officer remained on desk duty for two days until he cut off the braids. A police spokesperson said the officer’s supervisor did not believe the hair style was professional.

In today’s economy, the only thing selling are condoms – condom stocks are on a steady climb while other stocks are plunging. Which leads to a proven fact that while most men are busy struggling – and searching for jobs during this tough recession they are still finding ways to purchase sex.

I believe this documentary shows the perfect irony in illustrating a very strong paradox between two worlds: Strippers who prostitute for extra cash to stay afloat in this harsh economy and the men who find ways to purchase sex despite these hard economic times.

Sex sells and will always sells, despite if the economy’s good or not.

To say thank-you to Michael Jackson doesn’t seem to suffice …

A week ago the greatest entertainer of all-time, Michael Jackson, passed away. Since his death the music he created has taken over the entire world and fans have voiced their passion and love for the truly once-in-a-millennium performer.

Not only was Jackson the greatest singer, he was the greatest dancer with a stage presence unrivalled by anyone before him and from nobody since.
The King of Pop, he forever will be.

His life will forever be tarnished by accusations and elaborate lies created by the tabloids, that Jackson tried to defend himself against in his lyrics and film clips, but in the end the strength of the world media defeated one man.

When the Billboard charts are released this week, Jackson will fill out the Top 10 albums charts with nine of his back-catalogue records and in the Singles chart he will hold down six of the top eight slots, with “Thriller” climbing up to number 2.

The love for Michael Jackson is enormous at the moment, his unfortunate death rallying fans all across the globe to unite and be touched again by this musical genius.

These fans have always been there.

And I wonder, if the media that took pot-shot after pot-shot at Jackson had have instead concentrated on his undeniable talents and focused their attention to his gift, how much bigger could Jackson have been.

Fans, and you can tell there are millions and millions of them, eventually closed their eyes and shut off their ears to the constant hounding of Jackson by the media as interest in his unique way of life died off. Many people just started to think that stories were being told and somebody was getting rich. People wanted to hear about the talent he had, not about anything else.

He was the greatest there ever has been and should’ve been treated with respect, not the hatred he has had to endure.

Everyone has a Michael Jackson memory, a life defining moment that happened with a Jackson song spinning. Be it with his days as a young boy in the Jackson 5, the disco era, the “Thriller” album, “Bad,” or even his guest appearance on the “The Simpsons,” highlighted by his performance with Bart in singing “Happy Birthday Lisa,” Jackson has always been in our lives and will always be remembered.

I was lucky enough to have seen Jackson in concert and it still stands out as the most amazing performance I have ever seen.

To say thank-you to Michael Jackson doesn’t seem to suffice, because one thank-you cannot thank him for the affect he has had on my life and the millions and millions of others he has made smile.

Michael Jackson - RIP.

But the reality check kicks in and you catch yourself.

You remember what happened the last time you acted on that promising sex tip! Forget that! No more embarrassing bedroom moments, of trying to talk dirty or cover yourself in whip cream.

The lesson here is simple.

Your instincts are right – your curiosity and sense of sexual adventure is to be celebrated! Do not suppress or be ashamed of your erotic desires.

Just be aware of the true lesson of trying to apply sex tips.

Just learning new sex positions or techniques as though it was something TO DO to your partner can lead to the faulty thinking of a “do this” and “get that” mindset.

What happens here, will kill intimacy faster than incorrectly calling out your lovers name!

The “do this” and “get that” mind set is the polar opposite of honest and true intimacy. What you do is reduce our partner to an object. Also, you bring a control and power element, which when not consented, is lethal to building intimacy.

Having sexual outcome goals is not wrong, but they should not be outcome goals. Rather they should be process-goals! Passion in the bedroom is born from intimacy. Its not about doing and getting it really means “being together” and sharing.

Just think of all the information on sexual advice.

Techniques by themselves are never enough because they do not include reality and context of the lovers as a couple. Before a technique can have benefit it must be shared direct or indirectly with your partner. In other words,

Since CHRIS BROWN’s arrest nearly three months ago, his normally loquacious attorney has not said a word in public about how he plans to answer charges that the singer beat and choked his pop star girlfriend, Rihanna. But comments by the attorney in court Wednesday suggested part of the strategy might be attacking police for the leak of a photo showing Rihanna’s bloodied, bruised face.

Defense lawyer Mark Geragos told a judge he planned to request information about possible police misconduct or bias and mentioned by name an appellate court ruling that provides defendants access to files in internal police investigations related to their cases.
Geragos, whose unwavering “no comment” in the Brown matter is in marked contrast to his media-friendly handling of other high-profile cases, did not elaborate and declined to speak outside the courthouse.

But his remarks seemed a clear reference to the probe sparked by TMZ.com’s posting of a photo of Rihanna consistent with evidence pictures taken by police. Los Angeles Police Department investigators have been interviewing their own officers and scouring computers for two months in a thus far fruitless effort to determine whether someone inside the agency sold or gave the photo to the gossip website.

So wait … how is it Perez Hilton, the gossip blogger who built a career by drawing male genitalia and cartoon cocaine on celebrity photos, is now the media’s official spokesperson on one of the most important civil rights issues in America?

These 51 women fought tooth and nail Sunday for the Miss USA title. When the scratching and biting was over, Miss North Carolina, Kristen Dalton, was crowned…

Oh, yeah! The Internet … the same series of tubes that gave us LOL Cats, Chocolate Rain, Susan Boyle and easily accessible pornography. God love you, Internet. You sure do keep our world interesting.

Whether or not you follow Donald Trump’s Miss USA pageant, it’s hard to escape the fallout following Sunday’s nationally televised event. During the Q&A portion of the pageant, “celebrity judge” Hilton asked Miss California, Carrie Prejean, whether she supported gay marriage.

Prejean delivered her no-not-really response in the fumbling manner commonly heard at beauty pageants when a contestant is asked to deliver a succinct answer to a politically loaded question.

At any rate, Miss North Carolina took home the crown. Unfortunately for the rest of the country, we continue to be bludgeoned by updates on the “blogging queen versus the beauty queen.” Are we actually expecting a pair of inarticulate exhibitionists to fight this thing to a nationwide accepted finish?

Whatever, 24-hour news cycle — do what you gotta do. But you know, you wouldn’t invite LOL Cats to speak on animal cruelty. So please, stop presenting Perez Hilton (real name Mario Lavandeira) as an accredited, universally accepted spokesperson of a generation, rather than the Internet meme that refuses to die.

In the scope of gossip blogs, Perez Hilton’s Web site isn’t particularly witty or insightful — mostly it’s a regurgitation of the news. Certainly in the pre-blog era, a fame-hungry obsessive of negligible talent had slim to no chance wedging his foot in celebrity’s door.

In the age of cyberspace however, pop culture moves faster than the speed of light. Now, only the biggest freak show holds our increasingly limited attention span. And well, we’ve always been obsessed with celebrity. To his credit, Hilton figured this out early on, long before gossip Web sites were a dime a dozen.

Hilton pulled viewers to his growing Web enterprise with outrageous “Oh no he din’t!” comments on celebrity doings, accented with his aforementioned naughty use of Microsoft Paint. As his infamy grew, Hilton made the scene in increasingly garish wardrobe malfunctions — shiny sequined jumpsuits, a fur coat paired with a Hello Kitty shower cap … you get the picture. It’s the kind from which you can’t turn away. Well, good for him. Who gets hurt?

Funny you should ask. It’s good you did because nobody seems to be mentioning that way back a long, long time ago (around 2005), gay rights advocates were not enamored with the openly gay Perez Hilton, who used his increasingly popular Internet platform to “out” celebrities he believed to be gay and in the closet.

“In my own way, subserviently, I am trying to make the world a better place,” Hilton told the Los Angeles Times — a quote Japhy Grant referenced in the 2006 Salon story, “Perez Hilton’s gay witch hunt.”

“This raises the question: How does drawing c** stains on Clay Aiken’s mouth, crudely scrawling the word ‘bottom’ across a photo of Lance Bass or putting a call out to anyone who has ‘slept with Neil Patrick Harris’ make the world a better place for gay or straight people? And what does it say about the mainstream press that it has adopted him?”

To be sure, Perez Hilton — both the Web site and the personality — have changed since that article first came out. The man appears to have benefited from the services of a personal trainer and stylist as he more visibly occupies the celebrity atmosphere he’s long aspired to. (Didn’t you know? Perez and Paris Hilton are total BFFs!) Plus, he totally got to be one of Donald Trump’s Miss USA celebrity judges.

The gossip content on his Web site has toned down considerably as Hilton inexplicably surmounts the boundaries of Internet fame. Perhaps he, or the hired hands he’s reportedly hired, cut back on the nasty comments to further ease Hilton’s transition into mainstream.

Or maybe Hilton doesn’t want to hurt the feelings of his new celebrity BFFs. Whatever the reason, you may have to scroll three screens before happening upon a flying penis … but sure enough, cartoon genitalia can still be found (most recently accenting a pageant shot of Miss California).

“Dumb b**ch,” is how Hilton skillfully counters Miss North Carolina’s ineloquent pageant response in a video post on his Web site. And just in case you missed it, you can catch both of his recent appearances on “Larry King Live” where, in lieu of coherent statements, he over-annunciates his argument for gay marriage and why, apparently, Miss California is not qualified to represent these United States in first contact with an alien race … or whatever Hilton seems to believe Miss USA’s very important duties to be.

Within a day of the Donald Trump’s Miss USA incident, Hilton has now been hosted by most all major networks. Ambitiously clawing his way out of the Internet, Hilton was not invited to speak solely on the Miss USA incident for which he is at least somewhat qualified. Instead, the gossip blogger accepted the media’s unspoken invitation to represent not just the entire gay community, but all of America.

Each interview unfolds pretty much vapidly the same; Hilton is presented as a “celebrity columnist” and never once with the full disclosure that the only party this master of obscene Web doodles poorly represents is himself.

Won’t you please help Helen A.S. Popkin achieve her sad little dream of Internet fame by following her on Twitter — or even just friending her on on Facebook? C’mon! All the kids are doin’ it! What are ya, chicken?
