FOREST WHITAKER wants 50 CENT to be his son — in front of the camera, that is. The Oscar-winning actor is negotiating a deal to play the rapper-turned-actor’s pop in the adaptation of the 1886 novel The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde. The actor is still talking to the movie bosses about the possibility, but is hopeful the two can become onscreen family.

He told MTV News: “We’re still figuring out what we’re going to do, if I am going to be doing that or not. If I end up doing it, I would be playing Jekyll and he would be playing Hyde. It’s a father-son kind of relationship. It’s also an interesting script because we are dealing with similar things. Jekyll has a lot of issues and problems personally. Hidden passions, hidden perversions, and it is acted out by 50.”

Jekyll and Hyde will closely follow the original storyline, written by Robert Louis Stevenson, which focuses on troubled Dr. Jekyll’s battle with right and wrong. After drinking a chemical potion, a younger and crueler version of the medic, Mr. Hyde, emerges. Forest added:

Abel Ferrara directs it. It would be very classic. They just turned in a new draft. It’s based on the book really strongly. It will be interesting to play Jekyll.

“Candy Shop” rapper 50 CENT started selling crack in Queens, New York, after his mother, who was also a dealer, was murdered. He was just 12 years old, but he’d tell his grandmother he was at an after-school club while he roamed the streets pushing narcotics.

The musician (real name Curtis Jackson) explained:

If there was another option that made sense to me at that time period, I would have taken it. But I made my choices at an age where there was an innocence involved.

I identify with it being the wrong choice now, but you can’t regret that you made it.

50 quit drug dealing in 2000, but an old “crack feud” came back to haunt him a few months later when he was shot nine times at close range. He sustained injuries to his hand, arm, hip, chest, legs and cheek, but eventually fully recovered. The hip-hop star now sees the shooting as a “transformational moment” that made him into the strong person he is today.

He explained: “When you get hurt as bad as I was hurt when I was shot, either fear consumes you, or you become insensitive. Things that happened to me after that started to matter a lot less. Whatever else happens is just not a big deal.”
