NATHAN! ASPIRATIONS OF AN INTERNATIONAL SUPERSTAR!

Twinkle, twinkle destinys star. How I wonder what you are? - DATZHOTT!

“Sometimes being different can be the biggest challenge and the biggest asset.” – NATHAN!

NATHAN-POSTER

HOTT AND RAW EXCLUSIVE!

Because sometimes people want to hear something different but they aren’t ready for it!

Born in the UK but raised in Jamaica and NY, NATHAN was destined to be an international star. Being the son of reggae singer Lorna Gee, Nathan was inroduced to music at an early age. In his teens, Nathan spent most of his years in London where he developed his music style which was strongly influenced by the culture and music of both the US and Jamaica.

In 2006, his single “Cold As Ice” feat. Rick Ross earnered the young singer & songwriter a UMA for “Best Music Video”. His other hit single “Do Without My Love” earned him a UMA for “Best R&B Act”.

In this HOTT AND RAW EXCLUSIVE!, Nathan talks about the difficulties of crossing over into the U.S. market, his latest music, and his aspirations of becoming an international superstar.

WHATs HOTT!!! ABOUT NATHAN!?!

A form of confidence that is good as resilience!

“At 14 years old, I sang for Alicia Keys after her show and she joined me in a rendition of Musiq’s “Just Friends,” then she said ‘you remind me of Jamie Foxx,’” recalls Nathan Fagan Gayle.

It looks like Ms. Keys was on to something. The 22 year-old singer/songwriter Nathan is a fresh face from London’s southeast side with a light tenor and brave falsetto that’s perfect for pop music. Born in London, Nathan is a mash of British, American and Jamaican culture, having spent time living in each country. His mother, Lorna Gee, is a reggae singer and continued to tour after Nathan was born, leaving him in his Grandmother’s care in Spanish Town, Jamaica.

Nathan aged 14, and Alicia Keys

At five years old, Nathan moved to New York City with his mother and at 10 his family moved back to London’s southeast area, Forest Hill. It was there that Nathan began to perform with his mother during her shows and the performance seed was planted. Four years later, the young man began his R&B career with a stroke of luck on UK radio.

“I loved to be on stage, at that time I didn’t know what I wanted to do,” laughs Nathan. “I just entered competitions everywhere and did everything, from dancing to singing. Then, I entered into Choice FM’s “RAPOLOGY” competition.”

In 2002, London’s urban radio station Choice FM held a contest called “RAPOLOGY” for burgeoning artists. Applicants submitted demo tapes of their talent, and if selected, each contestant performed in front of the station’s DJs and 3,000 people for a chance at 1,000 GBP and a chunk of professional studio time. The eager artist’s first talent entry of raps were ignored. So a determined Nathan entered “RAPOLOGY” again, only this time he submitted a recording of his singing.

“I was just going to keep at it until I won!” says Nathan, smiling.

As a result, in 2003, Choice’s staff called 14 year-old Nathan in to perform, Usher’s “You Got It Bad” to be precise, and he won first place. Now all he had to do was come up with a song.

“I had never written my own song, I was 14 years-old going on 15,” recalls Nathan. “But the prize was studio time in a Sony studio, so I had to write something! The first song I ever wrote was called What’s ur Name was the only demo song recorded in the awarded studio time that was eventually re-produced for Masterpiece.

After becoming the most popular song on UK Urban radio, Nathan’s first effort Come Into My Room was released on V2 Records. The follow-up Do Without My Love and the debut album Masterpiece were released independently on Mona Records. Both releases charted Top 40 in the UK.

nathan-02

Two years later, two more songs garnered Nathan more critical acclaim and he won two consecutive Urban Music Awards. The Urban Music Awards are one of two UK-based urban music awards, the other being the MOBOS. In 2006, his single Do Without My Love captured an Urban Music Award for Best R&B Act, beating out nominees Ne-Yo, Akon and Jamelia. And the following year, Nathan’s single Cold As Ice featuring Rick Ross earned the young singer/songwriter another Urban Music Award for Best Music Video. Both songs were released through the independent label, Mona Records/VCM.

In 2007, Nathan released his debut independent album, Masterpiece, both in the UK and in Japan. Next Nathan decided to tackle British reality television.

“In 2008, I entered “Celebrity Big Brother” in the UK, the 24 hour reality show for just 18-21 year olds, ” says Nathan. ” I never thought I would do anything like that, but at the time there was a rise in knife and gun crime in the UK. There weren’t many positive young black role models on TV, so I wanted to show people that not everyone fits the violent stereotype. It would’ve been great to win, but I did last until the final day. It was a really crazy experience.”

Now Nathan is focused on releasing his as-yet-untitled sophomore album. His first single, the bouncy, mid-tempo Superwoman hit radio recently along with his club banger Dirty Sexy Money. The young singer, who currently resides in Atlanta, can’t wait until the public hears his work.

“With the second album, there’s been a lot of growth from my songwriting to my vocals,” says Nathan. “I would describe my music as international R&B. There are loads of American and European melodies mixed with R&B and reggae influences. I just wanted to do something that’s unique to myself.”

screenshot25

Counting Usher, Marvin Gaye, Will Smith and Micheal Jackson as his music and role model influences, Nathan aims to blend his passion into a another masterpiece ready for international R&B lovers. And despite building his career thus far with independent savvy, Nathan is not opposed to major label interest.

“I feel we’ll start the fire off independently and then sign to a major label,” says Nathan. “There are a few people interested now, so we have to keep building up the hype so everyone in the UK knows who I am. I want to showcase myself and my music, and really show who Nathan is, and build a long career. I’m really excited, and anxious for people to start hearing the music.”

BUCK$! “I WAS ABOUT TO KILL MYSELF!”

// July 10th, 2009 // 3 Comments » // Hott and Raw Exclusives

THE LOUD DREAMS! OF AN UNSPOKEN SURVIVOR! ...

In a world that is so distant and cold. The street continues to hold secrets that the truth has never told. Society refuses to scream and bare witness to the terrible unseen vivid dreams about the quiet reality, of an unspoken survivor ... BUCK$!

buck1_writing

HOTT AND RAW EXCLUSIVE!

I WAS HOMELESS AND I HAD NOWHERE TO STAY

Buck$ further asserts, All I was doing was making beats -- and I had nowhere to live basically ... IT BRINGS YOU CLOSER TO GOD ... when youre out there in the streets. ...

HOLD ON, and keep my head to the sky was what I was able to do.

Buck$ – during an exclusive interview with Datzhott.com

In this HOTT AND RAW EXCLUSIVE!, BUCK$ talks about once being a homeless hip-hop producer on the streets, and the pressures that drove him to wanting to commit suicide before hitting it big with hits such as, “White Tee” and “Lean, With It! Rock, With It” with DEM FRANCHISE BOYS. Buck$ also talks with us about the releasing of his debut solo album. After listening to the interview above. Check below for the latest music by BUCK$

WHATs HOTT! ABOUT BUCK$!?!

The Will to Carry On!

A new heavy hitter to the game comes hard with his head bumpin’, club bangin’ tracks out of Atlanta. The once homeless rapper taste at fame was all unexpected.

Buck$ is well known for his work and association with Dem Franchise Boyz and their hits “White Tee” & “Lean With It”, as well as the Trap Squad and the track “What’s Happening”. His most recent credits include two songs “Dealers & Killers” and “Roll Ya Arms”, featured on Dem Franchise Boyz 2008 LP, Our World, Our Way. But after years of producing for some of Down-South’s heavyweights including D4L, Fabo, Lil Yola, Meathead, Parlay, and the rest of Dem Franchise Boyz, Buck$ finally strikes out on his own. This super producer turned rapper and self-proclaimed “non-industry person, but an in-the-street-person” takes his previous successes in producing to the next level with his upcoming single, “Knock, Knock.” This is definitely one of the hottest joints coming out of the ATL right now!

EDD_5940_Color_NoSky

Despite having achieved great credentials in the music industry, his climb to success always left him at a constant state of renewal. First losing his mother at the tender age of 2, followed by the passing of his father at age 7, and therefore being raised by his grandmother. However, by age 18 she passed away too, leaving him homeless, the lowest point of his life. With each loss, although devastated, Buck$ continued to persevere and concentrate more on his passion, music. With a “never let ‘em knock you down” optimistic thinking instilled at an early age, Buck$’ desire to succeed only grew stronger with every loss. It’s with this type hard work and determination and not to mention talent for hot beats and hooks, Buck$ intends on delivering new music to the world.

Since teaming up with Frank Liwall, Sandra and James Azor of TRN Entertainment, Buck$’ work on his solo project continues. With influences ranging from Nelly and Dr. Dre to Mariah Carey and Mary J. Blige, his new album reflects his broad ideas and scope on life.

With Buck$’ new album expected to hit the stores sooon, also be sure to check out this certified banger, “Knock, Knock” available for exclusive download on the iTunes Store (www.itunes.com).

J-KWON! “I AM HIP-HOP!”

hip-hop! better pay! attention! to me!

jkwon03

HOTT AND RAW EXCLUSIVE!

ANY PERSON IS THEIR RIGHT MIND KNOW THAT THERE IS NEVER ... a set formula to come up with a HIT!

J-Kwon – during an exclusive interview with Datzhott.com

We often hear tales of people who strike out on their own at an early age, stars in their eyes and big dreams in tow. While very few people at any age actually achieve that time at the top, St. Louis native J-KWON was a rare success. When he was just 17-years-old, he hit the top of the charts in 2004 with “Tipsy” from his debut album Hood Hop (So So Def/Arista). Now 22, J-Kwon is back with an independent stride and even bigger goals. He digitally released his street album Hood Hop 2 on February 17, and will release his album Hood Hop 2.5 this Summer, both in association with Gracie Productions and EMI. His new single “Fly” is currently available on iTunes.

In this HOTT AND RAW EXCLUSIVE, DATZHOTT! talks with J-Kwon about the dropping of his new album, his relationship with Jermaine Dupri, and his thoughts about the current state of hip-hop. After listening to the above interview be sure to check below for some of J-Kwon’s latest music.

WHATs HOTT !!! ABOUT J-KWON !?!

The undying need to succeed!

Unusually driven as a child, J-Kwon left home when he was only 13-years-old to pursue music. Family and friends didn’t believe in his vision, but fortunately there were people who did, namely Sean Caldwell. The budding music exec gave J-Kwon a place to stay as they began to build up the young rapper’s music catalog. Within two years, local production celebrities the Trackboyz heard J-Kwon’s song “Personality,” and the world opened up.

At the time, Trackboyz were already making hits for Nelly and Nappy Roots, and in their attempt to build up their production company, they signed J-Kwon for a $1,000 advance. From there, things moved quickly, as the Trackboyz introduced J-Kwon to the now-defunct Arista Records A&R MeMpHiTz (now at Jive). MeMph then arranged a showcase for Antonio “L.A.” Reid, Jermaine Dupri and their team of A&R executives.

jkwon04

After a rousing audition for the Arista team, Jermaine Dupri gave J-Kwon the opportunity to pour the last four years of his struggle into song for the world to hear, and at just 17-years-old, J-Kwon created Hood Hop. This 2004 debut release on So So Def/Arista featured production by the Track Boyz, Dupri and Bryan-Michael Cox, and hit #7 on the Billboard 200, while the lead single “Tipsy” hit #2 on the Hot 100 chart and #4 in the U.K. He followed promptly with the singles “You & Me” and “Hood Hop,” however neither had quite the reception with fans as “Tipsy,” which is still a mainstay club and radio track around the world to this day.

While J-Kwon went on to record the song “Get XXX’d” with Petey Pablo and Ebony Eyez for the XXX: State of the Union soundtrack, an EP remix of “Tipsy” with Chingy and Murphy Lee and appeared on Bow Wow’s popular “Fresh Asimiz” single in 2005, things behind the scenes were falling apart. Arista Records folded, and even through a series of negotiations, the Trackboyz and J-Kwon were left out in the cold.

Jkwon07

Never one to allow setbacks to fade him, J-Kwon began to create new opportunities. Still on good terms with the great majority of his associates, including Jermaine Dupri and Trackboyz, the 22-year-old has already set out on his venture as an independent artist. He is working with a new manager, Keith Matthews of Skot Fre Music, and has now teamed with Gracie Productions and EMI to digitally release his new projects.

Working without limitations, J-Kwon has been developing his production skills as well.

True to his entrepreneurial spirit, J-Kwon also launched Hood Hop Music, and has his own roster of fresh talent including Gino Green, Lou Kane and the group The Showoffs, which J-Kwon is actually a part of.

J-Kwon’s journey thus far has been an amazing ride, and he’s really just getting started. In retrospect, he may have liked some things to go differently in his life, but he knows in the end that he’s a better man for his experiences.

WHATs HOTT!?! ABOUT JIBBS!

Born Jovan Campbell, JIBBS got his rap moniker as a child because of his gift for “jibber jabber.” With his mother a former rapper, his father a musician, and his older brothers also making their way in the rap game, Jibbs was steeped in music. Inspired by heavyweights like the Notorious BIG, Jay Z, Eminem, Lil Wayne, and hometown star Nelly, Jibbs began rapping at age 8. His brother DJ Beatz, who built production credits on projects by Chingy and Nelly, took Jibbs’ childhood desire to make music seriously.

With the Beatstaz behind his 2006 debut, Jibbs Featuring Jibbs, the 15-year-old hit hard with the Number 7 pop single “Chain Hang Low,” which sold over 1.5 million downloads and 1 million ringtones. The young hip-hop star also made a splash with “Go Too Far” featuring Melody Thornton of the Pussycat Dolls, and “King Kong.”

After Jibbs peaked at Number 11 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2007, Jibbs decided to give fans a holdover between albums with the mixtape Round One, issued in 2008.

q: What have you learned about hip-hop?

Yung Berg asserts, Its really a game ...

yb_mixtape_head

By John Charles Reedburg (CEO/Publisher/Executive-Producer)

YUNG BERG IS GETTING BACK TO BUSNIESS RIGHT NOW a lot of things happened to me last year ... a lot of situations but my main thing, my main objective is to stay true to my music.

Yung Berg – during an exclusive interview with Datzhott.com

He has a style that is undeniably fresh, surrounded by a crew that emulates HBO’s Entourage quad. At 21 years old, this Chi-town native is quietly plotting his take over of the phenomenon we know as Hip Hop. Possessing a flow that sounds as classic as a Marvin Gaye tune, with charisma more contagious then the common cold, Yung Berg is the definition of what happens when skills and swagger are pooled into one powerhouse.

In this Hott and Raw Exclusive, YUNG BERG talks about his new reality show, his upcoming album “The Love Project”, and ways that he wish to inspire the next generation of hip-hop artists.

WHAT’S HOTT!!! ABOUT YUNG BERG!?!

A brilliant stride for resilience!

Previously signed to DMX’s Bloodline Records, Yung Berg got his first taste of the music business at the age of 15. Unfortunately Yung Berg’s bite of success left a bad taste in his parent’s mouths, which lead to a mandatory relocation to military school in 2001.

This move would prove to be a blessing in disguise; with no television or radio available, it forced the budding lyricist to develop and hone a style all his own, free of the influences of the wave of hip hop that was popular at the time. Yung Berg decided to take a different road to stardom upon his return in 2003. Berg refocused his energy and decided that learning the “behind the scenes” aspect of the business was going to propel his career to the next level. So in 2005 he signed on as a hype man for Disturbing The Peace’s first lady of rap, Shawnna.

1269576764_l

The entrepreneur in Berg was cultivated during this time. Embodying every quality of a true leader, Berg launched his own entertainment venture – the Yung Boss imprint – currently comprised of a roster of equally talented producers and emcees. “We’re setting the standard for what’s acceptable,” says Berg. “Every other young dude was put on; we’re putting ourselves on.” Now a little older and a lot wiser, Yung Berg is signed to Epic Records, gearing up to release his debut album, Look What You Made Me.

l_ed4dcea5bf860653b19a1e138

The record boasts a wide variety of material ranging from specially crafted songs for the ladies to street anthems made to resonate in anyone’s “hood”. Look What You Made Me is Yung Berg’s story in his own words and is poised to be one of the best new releases of 2007. Having snagged writing credits on albums for some of hip hop’s elite including Shawnna and Eve and dropping verses on mixtapes for the likes of Clinton Sparks, Young Berg is guaranteed to bring that same spark and energy to his own project. With a solid music foundation, a powerhouse creative machine and an increasingly growing fan base, Yung Berg is well on his way to becoming the voice of hip hop’s next generation.

The combination has undeniably resulted in the birth of the most versatile and unique emcees to enter the game in quite some time, ultimately the reason why hip hop’s future is firmly in tact.

Shelly Rio, legally known as Michelle Corbin, comes from a modest upbringing. Born into a single parent family, her mom passed away when she was 3, whereas her father was a man she never met. Raised in various foster care facilities and group homes, her knack for survival was never an option. Even though, she never fully embraced womanhood before becoming a mother. She had no choice but to utilize her innate resilience and uncompressing surrender to brilliantly choose the road to an unforeseen path called destiny.

In this Hott and Raw Exclusive, Shelly Rio talks with DATZHOTT! about her job on the Claudia Jordan Radio Show, her thoughts about the stereotypes of urban models, and the book she’s planning to publish.

WHAT’s HOTT!!! ABOUT SHELLY RIO!?!

An Ever Expanding Journey!

Shelly has always known since a little girl she wanted to model, but couldn’t until she was out of the system. Once turned 19 and on her own she started making her own family and had her first son. Holding a number of jobs before pursuing her modeling career, Shelly worked as a waitress for 4 years. It was however, a customer that approached her and said you should be a model that Shelly decided it was now or never.

Shelly found a great photographer, took some pictures, and got an agent and found one. From there everything took off. Originally from NJ, Shelly decided to move to Los Angeles to explore more opportunities. Rio has worked with some of the hottest video directors like Chris Robinson, Hype Williams, and Brian Barber. Just to name a few

Currently, Shelly Rio is starting her own non-profit organization for foster kids, group home kids, and single moms to help them with funding when they turn 18. These programs will include helping young adults transition living out in the real world when they move on their own.
