OBAMA TELLS! BLACK AMERICANS “WE NEED A NEW MINDSET!”

// July 17th, 2009 // No Comments » // Uncategorized

the truth is much like a tree of knowledge ... only difference ... the truth killed Christ and left many fighters in the civil rights movement hanging from its limbs!

We went down in some dungeons where captives were held. There was a church above the dungeons, which tells you something about saying one thing and doing another. We went through the door of no return, and I was reminded of all the pain and all the hardships, all the injustices and all the indignities, on the voyage from slavery to freedom

President Barack Obama walks onto stage to speak at the NAACP annual convention July 16, 2009 in New York City. Obama discussed the civil rights movement and the importance of carrying on civic responsibility at the 100th anniversary of the nations oldest civil rights organization.

Preach on, Brother! Preach on!

In 1909, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People was formed by a group of blacks and whites in response to lynching and the 1908 race riot in Springfield, Ill., the political birthplace of President Abraham Lincoln. After a century spent fighting for racial equality and social justice, a black man is leading the nation. So it was only fitting that at the NAACP’s Centennial Convention in New York City, attended by Black Voices, President OBAMA took the opportunity to thank the civil rights organization for laying the foundation of his success.

“Because ordinary people made the civil rights movement their own, I made a trip to Springfield a couple years ago – where Lincoln once lived and race riots once raged – and began the journey that has led me here tonight as the 44th president of the United States of America,” he told those gathered at the NAACP Spingarn Awards Dinner yesterday at the New York Hilton in Manhattan. “Because of them, I stand here tonight on the shoulders of giants.”

His address, which he clearly enjoyed making, had the air of a homecoming. The preacher-like intensity he reached at its climax brought the crowd of dignitaries and NAACP members to its feet three times, with thunderous applause. Perhaps Obama’s recent trip to Ghana had stoked the fire in his belly. “Michelle and I took Malia and Sasha to Cape Coast Castle, where captives were once imprisoned before being auctioned, where, across an ocean, so much of the African American experience began,” he described. “We went down in some dungeons where captives were held. There was a church above the dungeons, which tells you something about saying one thing and doing another. We went through the door of no return, and I was reminded of all the pain and all the hardships, all the injustices and all the indignities, on the voyage from slavery to freedom.”

Though it was clear Obama’s mission last night was to thank and to inspire, he did cite some of the efforts his administration is making to address the education and achievement gaps between blacks and whites, as well as to protect consumers against predatory lenders and reform health care. He pointed to the creation of the still-embryonic White House Office of Urban Affairs and also mentioned a recent report by New York City controller Bill Thompson that the number of unemployed blacks in the city rose four times as fast as the number of unemployed whites between early 2008 and early 2009. However, those looking for meat on the bones of efforts benefiting African Americans would go away hungry from the Spingarn dinner.

Instead, Obama seized the moment to exhort the group — and all black Americans — to take responsibility for overcoming the economic and social inequalities that still plague our our community, while acknowledging the role of institutional racism. “Government programs alone won’t get our children to the Promised Land,” Obama said. “We need a new mindset, a new set of attitudes – because one of the most durable and destructive legacies of discrimination is the way that we have internalized a sense of limitation; how so many in our community have come to expect so little of ourselves.” He left the group with this message: “If three civil rights workers in Mississippi…could lay down their lives in freedom’s cause, I know we can come together to face down the challenges of our own time. We can fix our schools, heal our sick, and rescue our youth from violence and despair.”

Though black Americans must continue to hold the president accountable for addressing our needs, it’s clear that as Obama attacks the many-headed hydra of a failing economy, a dysfunctional health care system and two wars, indeed, the task will largely fall on our own shoulders.

LEVI JOHNSTON SAYS! PALIN QUIT FOR CASH!

It’s always for the payout!

LEVI JOHNSTON, the father of BRISTOL PALIN’s son, believes he knows what was behind Alaska Governor SARAH PALIN’s choice to resign.

Johnston says he lived with the Palin family from early December until the second week in January. During his stay, he claims, he often heard Gov. Palin remark how it would be nice to cash in on some of the deals coming her way, including a reality show and a book. Johnston said at a recent news conference, “I think the big deal was the book. That was millions of dollars.”

Palin could use a couple million, as she claims to have racked up $500,000 in legal fees.

Needless to say, Palin’s camp has shot down Levi’s speculation. Palin family spokeswoman Meghan Stapleton wrote in an e-mail to the Associated Press, “It is interesting to learn Levi is working on a piece of fiction while honing his acting skills.”

First impressions are always the most impressionable!

Today, BARACK OBAMA met POPE BENEDICT XVI for the first time as President of the United States. First Lady MICHELLE OBAMA accompanied him to the sitting, which took place in the pope’s Vatican library on Friday.

According to the Associated Press, Pope Benedict XVI underscored the church’s opposition to abortion and stem cell research during the 30-minute meeting. The president and the pope also reportedly discussed immigration, foreign aid, and the road to peace in the Middle East.

JACKSON! CONGRESSIONAL RESOLUTION! DENIED!

blame! nancy pelosi! for snubbing the next elevation in humanity!

“A resolution I think would open up two contrary views that are not necessary at this time, to be expressed, in association with the resolution whose purpose is quite different”

Congress has nerves!

Caught up in the spirit of remembering MICHAEL JACKSON for good things like his physics-defying dance skillz, Rep. SHEILA JACKSON-LEE (D-TX) [no relation] proposed a resolution to honor MJ with a congressional resolution at his memorial Tuesday.

Everyone seemed to think that was pretty awesome at the time, but when the idea was actually kicked around by people in congress, they decided MJ’s double-edged legacy is still a little too controversial to go passing resolutions in his honor. Nancy Pelosi played the part of the killjoy Thursday morning when she was asked about the resolution while talking about things like healthcare, the economy, and whether or not the CIA lied about torture.

“Michael Jackson was a great great performer, and lot’s of sadness there for many reasons,” she said. “What I had said to my colleagues over the years, and certainly as leader and speaker, there’s opportunity on the floor of the House to express their sympathy or their praise any time that they wish. I don’t think it’s necessary for us to have a resolution.”

Why not?

“A resolution I think would open up two contrary views that are not necessary at this time, to be expressed, in association with the resolution whose purpose is quite different.”

Memorial+Service+Michael+Jackson+Draws+Thousands+mUhcXN8_G1il

The resolution seems simple enough, but the crazy thing is that it’s actually a political minefield in disguise. In fact, I guarantee there was at one point a room full of advisors crapping their pants over what to do with this thing.

On one hand, you have Michael Jackson: Greatest Performer Ever. On the other you have Michael who spoke openly in a 60 Minutes interview about having sleepovers with children.

The general view expressed at MJ’s Tuesday memorial was that the press treated him unfairly and that the allegations of pedophilia were trumped up. After all, he was never proven guilty in a court of law. That doesn’t matter to the many who think Jackson was let off the hook. When the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) stood to honor Jackson’s memory the day he died, several members of congress walked out of the room!

Fortunately for Pelosi, the CBC did not take up the resolution as a group cause. If they had, she would have had to weigh the loyalty (votes) of CBC members with the possibility that many voters would find it inappropriate to honor Jackson with a congressional resolution. Not only that, but Pelosi would have had to worry about appearing racist for not supporting the resolution.

Phew. Politics is hard. Pelosi can only hope Jackson-Lee drops the whole resolution idea or else fails to build any real support for it. The ball appears to be in her court.

PALIN! “POLITICALLY SPEAKING, IF I DIE! I DIE”

The former Alaska governor addressed her abrupt resignation Tuesday morning on CNN

HOTT LOOK@POLITICS!

Really! How Gump-ish can you be?

Following former Alaska Governor SARAH PALIN’s surprise resignation Friday, she’s doing the talk show circuit to answer questions about her future in politics. Tuesday morning, Palin spoke to NBC, ABC and CNN to talk about how her resignation will affect that future.

“I said before … ‘You know, politically speaking, if I die, I die. So be it,’” she said on ABC’s Good Morning America when asked about how her resignation would hurt her prospects. Since Friday, Palin has gone from being a 2012 presidential contender to being the worst trainwreck the Republican party has ever known.

Still, Palin told CNN that “all options are on the table” for her future.

Playing to her folksy roots, the former governor appeared in fishing waders while being interviewed in the town of Dillingham. Friday, she said that being mired in costly litigation over multiple ethics complaints had paralyzed her politically and she was unable to continue as governor. Palin characterized her resignation as being what was best for her career and for the state of Alaska.

“I’m not going to take the comfortable path. I’m going to take the right path for the state,” she said.

SARAH PALIN RESIGNS AS GOVERNOR!

Oh wow! Don’t get all philosophical on us now – Sarah! LOL!

Former Vice Presidential nominee SARAH PALIN resigned from her post as Alaska’s Governor on Friday. At a press conference held outside her Wasilla, Alaska home, Palin confirmed what had already been rumored by GOP insiders: she will not run for a second term, and she’ll be out of the governor’s office by the end of the month. She explained, “I am not wired to operate under the same old ‘politics as usual.’”

A harried-looking Palin did not offer a clear reason for her decision to step down. She repeatedly asserted that she was doing what was right for Alaska. She also said her decision was influenced by a recent trip to Kosovo, as well as the wishes of her family.

WHEN SARAH PALIN! ATTACKS!

unfortunately! this is what happens! LOL!

“I think it’s a weak excuse and regardless it was a degrading comment about a young woman”

Sarah looks a lot smarter when she’s tee’d off! Maybe she should get angry more often! LOL!

It turns out that the National Organization for Women (NOW) would agree with Palin. The liberal organization showed its support for the conservative politician by skewering Letterman on its Web site Friday.

Still angry over some of DAVID LETTERMAN’s decidedly off-color jokes about her trip to New York, SARAH PALIN spoke with Matt Lauer on the Today show Friday morning.

Cutting Letterman no slack after a 7-minute explanation delivered on his Wednesday night show, the Alaska governor told Lauer it was a sad commentary on what our society deems acceptable when we’re willing to laugh at such offensive material. Palin has taken particular issue with Letterman joking that her daughter was “knocked up” by Alex Rodriguez during the 7th-inning stretch at a Yankees game. She says Letterman was joking about her 14-year-old daughter, Willow, but Lauer pointed out that Letterman says the joke was in reference to her 18-year-old daughter, Bristol.

“Matt I would say that you and, and anybody else are extremely naive to believe that very convenient excuse of David Letterman’s the other day,” she said in response. “It took a couple days for him to think of that excuse — uh no he wasn’t talking about my daughter who was there with me at the game, the 14-year-old. He was talking about some other daughter.”

SONIA! SOTOMAYOR! COVER! VERY! OFFENSIVE!

// June 8th, 2009 // No Comments » // Hott Look@Politics

for every reason! unnecessary!

The conservative news mag is upping its controversy quotient with a cover that is already dropping jaws

5836l

My first reaction to the new “National Review” cover was that it wasn’t real. I mean I know the caricatures are part of the conservative magazine’s schtick, but outright race baiting has got to be out of the question right? I mean everyone remembers the media storm that followed that ridiculous New Yorker Obama cover and it was obvious that was tongue-in-cheek. But alas, the cover is real and I sigh in disappointment.

The cover evokes SOTOMAYOR’s controversial “wise Latina” remark made in 2001 at the University of California-Berkeley law school (and apparently repeated several times). While addressing students there, she said she “would hope that a wise Latina woman with the richness of her experiences would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a white male who hasn’t lived that life.”

So yeah, probably not a great thing to say as a sitting judge because it reveals a possibly very deep bias. And that’s why it’s been written and talked about a LOT since the speech was uncovered.

sotomayor-pinata

But mixing the “wise Latina” remark with a semi-coherent allusion to Buddhist enlightenment and spicing it up with some stereotypically slanted eyes and big teeth? It’s like the National Review thinks controversy sells or something.

Sadly this isn’t the first time a Sotomayor caricature has gone in for race-baiting. The Oklahoman has drawn criticism this week for running a cartoon on Tuesday that depicted Sotomayor as a pinata with President Barack Obama asking a gang of GOP elephants, “Now, who wants to be first?”

NANCY PELOSI! YOU! LYING! B**CH!

// May 25th, 2009 // No Comments » // Hott Look@Politics

excuse me! for being so! abrasive! LOL!

In April, she said “We were not told” about the program at any briefing

pelosio-57045

This tramp is lying so much. I think I can see Pinocchio nose growing out of her a**! LOL!

House Speaker NANCY PELOSI said unequivocally in February: “I can say flat out, they never told us that these enhancement interrogations were being used.”

In April, she said “We were not told” about the program at any briefing. But a CIA memo released May 6 flatly contradicts those claims, stating CIA personnel gave Pelosi “a description of the particular EITs (enhanced interrogation techniques) that had been employed.” That briefing was in September 2002.
nancypelosiholdsweeklynewsconference3gozlpezbvzl

Pelosi now admits that an aide told her about the interrogation techniques in 2003, but she still maintains that the CIA didn’t tell her in 2002 that waterboarding had been used.

On May 14, she escalated her charge, claiming the CIA deliberately misled legislators. That prompted several Republicans – including former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, former presidential candidate and Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, and Fox News commentator Sean Hannity – to call for Pelosi’s resignation.

nancypelosiholdsweeklynewsconferencenayab5zkee6l

Is Pelosi misleading Americans and then recklessly charging the CIA with deliberate misconduct to cover her tracks, as some Republicans are suggesting?

Or is it the CIA memo that’s false, perhaps put forth in an effort to claim there was tacit bipartisan approval for acts that some Democrats now say should be prosecuted as criminal.

Evidence is sketchy. So far, no recordings, verbatim transcripts or contemporary notes of Pelosi’s 2002 briefing have surfaced, and for all we know, none may even exist.

nancypelosiholdsweeklynewsconference__0_nvsuy0sl

All that’s known publicly are conflicting, after-the-fact accounts. So we simply can’t determine exactly what the CIA told Pelosi in 2002 or exactly when she became aware of what was going on.

One thing is clear: Pelosi now concedes she knew about the CIA program – including the waterboarding – far earlier than she had led the public to believe. Her calls for a “Truth Commission” come six years after she now says she first learned about the CIA enhanced interrogation program.
