When her label EMI had worries about the commercial appeal of her new album, the singer says she nearly had to hock her home in order to get the thing out the door.

Singer JOSS STONE was so sure that her new record Color Me Free would be a hit, she was willing to do anything to get it out the door. When parent company EMI began to hedge its bets, worried about the commerical appeal of the material on the record, Stone went so far as to offer up her own home as a way making sure the record saw the light of day.

Says Stone, “It got to the point where I said, ‘Take my house and release the record’. The thing is, I just made an album and I wanted people to like it. I did not think anything of it. Why did it have to be a big deal? Why does it have to focus on being a number one song? F— that, I can’t be bothered.”

EMI eventually agreed to release Color Me Free, but refused to release any of their budget to promote the release. Despite the setbacks, Joss remains positive about her chances of the LP doing well.

She added: “EMI were running a business. It’s not about you having a lovely time in the studio… so it’s got a low budget? That’s fine by me. I just wanted to have artistic freedom. I’m tired of all the silliness. We will cross our fingers and see what we can muster. We’ll maybe see what we can do ourselves.”

Playing a social worker in the film “Precious“ really rubbed off!

MARIAH CAREY says that helping touch the lives of troubled teen fans is why she continues to create uplifting music. The “Hero” hitmaker stars in harrowing movie Precious — based on best-selling novel Push about an obese teenager who has two children through incestuous rape — and believes her music has helped girls in similar situations to the main character.

Carey says, “There are a lot of girls that I see at my shows that may fit the description of what people might think a Precious girl is. When I sing certain songs, you really see that it brings out emotions in them. I see tears of gratitude or joy because they relate to the message. So that’s why I continue to do songs that I feel will be uplifting.”

Mariah – who plays a social worker in the film – said she could relate to the plight of the characters in Push, but it also made her more aware of other people’s suffering.

She added to Parade magazine: “I guess the button that the story pushed in me would be just empathy. I mean your heart has to go out to Precious because she is going through so much. It touched me as a woman. It touched me just as a person. It’s like you think, ‘Maybe I’ve walked past someone who is a girl like this and not really focused on them or just totally ignored them.’”

Precious hits select theaters this weekend. There’s already Oscar buzz around the urban drama, with many saying it’s the movie to beat this year for Best Picture. You can see a trailer for the film below:

A source said: “Naomi was determined to spoil Vladislav and he was thrilled with the surprise. It may seem a bit of an extravagant step for just one night, but she really wanted to celebrate with him in style.”

The couple arrived in Morocco at 3am on Saturday morning before Naomi flew to Abu Dhabi and Tanzania to complete charity work for the White Ribbon Alliance the following day. The British beauty said: “This is the most romantic place, I love everything about it. I’m so busy and excited about the White Ribbon Alliance.”

Naomi and Vladislav, who is nicknamed the “Donald Trump of Russia” in his home country, began dating last year. Last August, it was reported the businessman was so smitten with Naomi he splashed out on a $18.5 million penthouse apartment for her in Brazil.

A source said at the time: “Naomi told Vladislav how much she loved Brazil and that she really wanted to settle down there. So he bought her the apartment, and said it was a gift for her. They will use it as their base when they are in Brazil together.

Several months ago, UK tabloids speculated that the oft-photographed VICTORIA BECKHAM was suffering from an eating disorder, pointing to her slender frame as evidence of malnutrition. Beckham brushed aside the rumors, just as she had in the past, telling a reporter that she quite healthy, and that she didn’t appreciate the constant criticism of her weight.

Beckham certainly appears tiny and trim on the December cover of the UK Harper’s Bazaar, a look that she admitted came from many hours in the gym. Beckham told the magazine that she kept up her 7-days-a-week workout routine in order to look good in photographs, saying, “I didn’t want to rely on retouching. I wanted to look at those pictures in 20 years’ time and say, ‘Wow, look – after three kids, I didn’t look bad.’”

There’s also Beckham’s commitment to fashion: the former singer has had surprising success with her high-end line Victoria Beckham Collection, and likely wants to remain her own brand’s best spokes-model.
