For better or worse, it appears RUN-DMC are next on deck to enter the world of biopics”“For better or worse, it appears Run-DMC are next on deck to enter the world of biopics
After penning the screenplay to the recently released Notorious, Cheo Hodari Coker is adapting the biography “Tougher Than Leather: The Rise of Run-DMC — The Authorized Biography” for the screen, with the book’s author and former Run-DMC publicist serving as executive producer.
The film, tentatively dubbed “Tougher”, would explore the history of the hip-hop pioneers — Joseph “Run” Simmons, Darryl “DMC” McDaniels and Jason “Jam Master Jay” Mizell, who was shot and killed in 2002 at the age of 37 — as well as the ’80s hip-hop scene in general.
“It’s an extraordinary rags-to-riches journey that I’m eager to bring to the screen,” producer Dallas Jackson told Billboard. “And I’m hoping to have Run, DMC and Russell Simmons’ involvement. This will be a big movie about the 1980s hip-hop movement that took over the world.”
This would not mark the group’s first time gracing the big screen. The trio starred in their own feature film, “Tougher Than Leather”, back in 1988, as well as last year’s documentary, Two Turntables and a Microphone, which told the story of Jam Master Jay’s life and untimely death.
No tentative release date for Tougher has been announced.

Also in other news, KarmaLoop.com reports that:
Late last night Kanye West posted this preview on his blog showing the high-profile shoes bearing a glow-in-the-dark design. Its really hard to tell what the colors of the upper could be due to the glowing effect but you can clearly see two big velcro straps.
All we can say here at Datzhott is we hope that Kanye continues pumping out great product no matter what it is. And always be sure to continue shaking off the haters. All hail the great Yeezey on this fantastic move.

Long live hip-hop.
MTV News gave a positive review of the BIGGIE biopic, “Notorious”, which premiered Wednesday night in New York, saying that Sean Combs “had a pleased smile on his face” when he left the theater. This is good news for the star of the film Jamaal Woolard, who played the big man himself, real name Christopher Wallace.
The mother of the late rapper Voletta Wallace was played by Angela Bassett and the two women posed together on the red carpet for pix. Other hip hop and R&B stars were in attendance including Mary J. Blige, Fabolous, Ja Rule, Ciara and Biggie’s widow Faith Evans.
Coco and Ice-T wore his and hers leather ensembles to the event. I wonder what was going through their minds. Like seriously.
Anyhow, check photos from the premiere below.

Despite the drama. He’s still waiting and willing.
The highly anticipated new album from EMINEM isn’t due until next spring, according to a new interview, but the rapper is hard at work.
While recently speaking with Billboard, the Detroit rapper spoke on his feelings about being back in the studio with Dr. Dre. He says he’s just like old times.
“Me and Dre are back in the lab like the old days, man,” Eminem told Billboard. “Just him banging away on tracks and me getting that little spark that makes me write to it. I don’t have chemistry like that with anyone else as far as producers go — not even close. Dre will end up producing the majority of the tracks on Relapse. We are up to our old mischievous ways … let’s just leave it at that.”
A few tracks have since leaked online since the hype about the album started growing, and Em isn’t happy about it. The most recent is one called “Crack A Bottle,” which you can listen to below. It’s an unfinished track with Em’s voice in place of Dre’s as a guide for the super producer to lay down his own vocals.
“It wasn’t close to finished, and it even has me doing guide vocals for Dre as a suggestion of how he could lay his verses down,” the rapper said. “It’s like someone catches you peeping in your window before you got the Spider Man costume all zipped up! Nobody is supposed to see that. We are gonna finish it up though and get it out there how it’s supposed to be.”
Em even spoke on the rumored “Stan 2″ track that producer Swizz Beatz recently talked about during an interview with MTV. According to Em, there’s no truth to it. In fact, he said he hasn’t worked with Swizzy on the album, and there is no “Stan 2″ coming. Why? Because Stan is dead.
In addition to Relapse, Em was also been working on an autobiography, titled The Way I Am, with writer Sacha Jenkins. So far, the book has received good reviews, and has even landed in the New York Times’ best-sellers list.

For those who haven’t read the book yet, it opens with a chapter about his late friend-rapper Proof, who’s death impacted the white rapper tremendously. Em says that chapter is the most important to him.
“Opening the book with Proof’s chapter was real important for me,” Eminem told Billboard. “Everything from my past moving into my future is marked by his passing. It’s sort of like life when Proof was with us, and life after — a real dividing factor. He means more to me than a book chapter could describe, but I’m glad I was able to put him first, like he did for me so many times.”
The book is in stores now.
Also, during the interview, he speaks on 50 Cent, what’s next from his label Shady Records, and more. Read the full piece at Billboard.com.

If DMX is anything, it’s consistent.
For the third time in 2008, an arrest warrant was issued Friday for the beleaguered rapper after he missed a court date.
This morning’s hearing was meant to address the 13 felonies he’s accused of committing, including animal cruelty, drug possession and identity theft.
The Cradle 2 the Grave star’s attorney, CHARLES KOZELKA, told the judge that his client is currently at an undisclosed rehab facility, but that did not stop Maricopa County Superior Court Judge MICHAEL KEMP from upping DMX’s bond to $120,000 and ordering that the sum must be paid in its entirety, in cash.
DMX (real name Earl Simmons) was last in Phoenix police custody in September after being extradited from Miami, where he was busy copping a plea for attempting to buy marijuana and cocaine from an undercover cop.
