The 25th anniversary remake of “We Are the World” that debuted at the Olympic opening ceremonies Friday already has its share of critics, and one of them is none other than the biggest name in hip-hop.

At the 2 Kings dinner held Saturday in Dallas as part of the NBA All-Star weekend, JAY told MTVnews.com that he appreciates what producers Lionel Richie and Quincy Jones were trying to do with the remake, but it never stood a chance at matching the original.

“I know everybody is gonna take this wrong: ‘We Are the World,’ I love it, and I understand the point and think it’s great. But I think ‘We Are the World’ is like [Michael Jackson's] ‘Thriller’ to me. I don’t ever wanna see it touched,” he said. “I’m a fan of music. I know the plight and everything that’s going on in Haiti. I applaud the efforts: [Millions have been raised] through text [donations] to Haiti.

“So I appreciate the efforts and everything, but ‘We are the World’ is [musically] untouchable like ‘Thriller’ is untouchable. Some things are just untouchable. It was a valiant effort, but for me, it’s gonna be untouchable.”

Many of the biggest names in music contributed to the benefit single, and they invariably gave glowing quotes about the song’s recording process. But critics haven’t been so kind to the finished product. The New York Times gave a mostly negative review, noting that, “‘We Are the World 25 for Haiti’ has all the pitfalls of a Hollywood remake. It whipsaws between attempting a shot-for-shot homage to the original and giving it some new twists.”

Jay-Z’s take? They should have just written a new song.

“As everyone knows, I have tremendous respect for Quincy Jones. Of course, I think he’s genius, as everyone else does. [But] I think it’s time for us to make a new [song]. I tried to do that with ‘Stranded,’ the song Jay, Rihanna and U2’s Bono and the Edge premiered at the ‘Hope for Haiti Now’ telethon]. I didn’t try to make ‘We Are the World,’ but I tried to make our take on how we felt.”

STEVIE WONDER barely made it through his performance on a TV tribute to MICHAEL JACKSON before he got really emotional, and cried about his late friend. The legendary singer was performing the pop legend’s track “The Way You Make Me Feel” when he broke down with his head in his hands.

Stevie, a close friend of Michael, who passed away in June, did, however, manage to finish his performance alongside soul singer JOHN LEGEND, and was given a standing ovation from the audience at the Rock and Roll 25th Hall of Fame Anniversary Concert, broadcast by HBO.

Meanwhile, Stevie, who is blind, has also been named a United Nations (U.N.) Messenger of Peace, for his philanthropic work which includes working with charities such as the Barack Obama’s Committee on Employment of People with Disabilities, the Children’s Diabetes Foundation and Junior Blind of America.

Stevie, 59, was selected for the position by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and is the 11th person to be given the honor. Ban Ki-moon said: “Our newest Messenger of Peace is someone who is admired by millions of people and has given back to millions of people.”

Singer JANET JACKSON says she and the rest of the Jackson family knew that Michael, who died in June, was abusing prescription drugs. Still, their attempts at an intervention proved unsuccessful.

When quizzed about her sibling’s drug use, she said: “Those are the things you do when you love someone. You can’t just let them continue on that way. And we did a few times but we weren’t very successful.”

Despite the family’s best efforts, Janet claims Michael, who had a cocktail of prescription drugs in his system when he passed away, wouldn’t accept that he had a substance abuse problem. She added to Good Morning America host Robin Roberts: “He understood our efforts were out of love, because of caring. But when people are like that they tend to be in denial. But I wish he could answer that question for you and not me.”

Janet is not the first member of the Jackson family to reveal they had tried to get the “Thriller” singer off drugs. Tito, who was a member of the Jackson 5 along with his sibling, accused his brother’s employees of helping him obtain and use prescription drugs against the wishes of his family.

He said earlier this year: “I think he was encircled by enablers. It was always a difficult situation, some people care about their job more than the person’s health and wellbeing and I think that’s what we experienced, some of the employers, security or whatever, were more concerned about their pay checks than letting us check on our brother.”

Michael was very, very special and my mother would always say that, because he was. He was very different. I would always say, ‘He’s not God. But he’s so God-like.’ He really was God-like. He just wanted to spread love and share love and just do everything that was wonderful. When you were around him, you felt that. You felt that energy. La Toya remains adamant the 50 London concerts her brother was set to perform were ultimately responsible for his death. She added:

Michael Jackson’s father JOE was shut down at Oktoberfest when he tried to get into an exclusive tent. The organizer’s said they turned him away because they were “shocked” that he would be out partying when he should be mourning Michael’s death.

The music mogul requested access to a VIP tent at Oktoberfest, an annual event which runs for 16 days in Munich, but was refused entry by events organizer Sepp Kratz because he thought Joe shouldn’t be out on the town celebrating when he just lost one of his children ealier this summer.

Sepp, who has run the Hippodrum tent for 15 years, told German magazine Stern:

Michael Jackson’s father was desperate to have a seat reserved. I rejected his request immediately. I was really shocked. The man has just buried his son. It’s totally inappropriate to celebrate happily just after your child passed away. That’s just not right. In short, anyone who has no sense of decency isn’t welcome at our place. Although Sepp isn’t a fan of Joe, one celebrity he did enjoy having in his tent was Paris Hilton.

Sepp revealed: “Paris came 3 years ago. She was lucky, she was allowed to enter. She really behaved herself, but I do think she has an ice cold heart.”

Oktoberfest kicked off on September 19 and ends on October 4. Joe, who the “Billie Jean” singer claimed beat him throughout his childhood, was criticized in the immediate aftermath of Michael’s death for publicizing new business ventures while speaking about he loss of his son.

The remainging Jackson brothers are setting out to become reality TV stars while riding the wave of their recent time in the spotlight after MICHAEL JACKSON’s death. The new show, The Jackson Dynasty will tap into the lives of JACKIE, TITO, JERMAINE and MARLON JACKSON. Tito confirmed to BBC6 Music:

It basically shows the insides of the Jackson brothers, what they are about, what they are about musically, their recording and their personal life as well as their public life, as you guys know it. We’ve had cameras follow us our whole entire lives, so that part of it is no problem. I have nothing in my life that I need to hide or whatever so I’m good with it. If anything, they’re gonna see how many girlfriends I have.

The first episode, which was filmed in March, three months before their brother Michael died, will air later this year. The remaining five episodes will be shot over the next three months, starting on September 21.

The program was initially planned to be a one-time documentary, but was extended into a series after Michael died of acute Propofol intoxication in June. It is not known whether footage of Michael will be included in the pilot episode, which focuses on the brothers as they prepared for a Jackson 5 reunion tour.

The Jackson family is moving Michael’s sperm sample to a secure clinic for fear that crazy fans will try to create an heir to his vast fortune.

MICHAEL JACKSON’s family is planning to spend almost $1,500 to move the star’s sperm sample to a secure London clinic, in order to protect it from “unscrupulous” people who might try to create a new heir to his fortune.

Michael, who died in June, deposited the genetic material in a Los Angeles sperm bank last year. He was hoping it could be used to conceive his fourth child, but his family now fears “rogue elements” could use it to get their hands on Michael’s billion dollar estate. A source told Britain’s Daily Mirror newspaper:
It might sound crazy but when it comes to Michael anything is possible. With everything that’s at stake the last thing the Jackson family need is someone using his sperm to give birth to a child and produce another potential heir to Michael’s estate.

The family know Michael authorized a number of people to access this sperm sample. The problem is they don’t know who has access and given that a number of doctors have been implicated in his death then something sinister could easily happen. The Jackson family has reportedly chosen to store the sperm in the British clinic because it has “extremely strict” security. A clinic source said: “The samples are kept behind unbreakable barriers and we have several layers of security operating around the sperm bank 24 hours a day.” Once there, the sample will be cryogenically frozen and stored under an anonymous identity number.

Michael had three children: Prince Michael I, 12, Paris, 11 and seven-year-old Prince Michael II, also known as “Blanket.” His former wife Debbie Rowe is the mother of his eldest children, while Blanket’s mother is unknown.

Michael insisted he was the biological father of his children, but his dermatologist Arnold Klein claims he fathered Prince Michael I and Paris. Klein’s lawyer Mark Vincent Kaplan said: “There was a possibility that the two older kids could be biologically linked to Dr. Klein. And Dr. Klein was well aware.”

Klein has refused to take a DNA test to determine his biological relationship to the children. Kaplan explained: “It would serve no helpful purpose for the children to be distracted from believing Michael Jackson is not the father in every possibility. It would be of interest to other people. It is not something Dr. Klein feels he is interested to establish. It would serve no purpose other than creating distraction or noise. It is not going to help the children, other than to solve the answered question, which is a selfish motive to see who the ultimate provider of the 13 chromosomes is.”

Michael Jackson’s mom claims the pressures of the 50-date residency her son was talked into caused his death, and she’s reportedly targeting the promoters behind the shows, AEG, and Michael’s doctor, Dr. Conrad Robert Murray, in a $100 million wrongful death lawsuit.

KATHERINE JACKSON’s lawyer Burt Levitch said:

The possibility of a wrongful death action has been floated.

In that regard, no decision has been finalized. Dr. Murray’s name has been put forward because he is under investigation.

It’s fairly obvious from press accounts that AEG had a very active role in Michael’s life for the last six months. They paid for his home and for Dr. Conrad Murray. Katherine may sue for her son’s loss of earnings and her emotional distress.

Michael died of a suspected cardiac arrest in June, after reportedly ingesting a cocktail of prescription drugs. Dr. Murray was with him at the time of his death, and is alleged to have administered powerful anaesthetic Propofol.

Michael was rehearsing for his comeback shows at the time of his death, and his family believe he turned to drugs to get through his gruelling preparation schedule for the performances. A spokesperson for AEG said: “It would be inappropriate to speculate on any potential litigation.”

Meanwhile, the Jackson family have confirmed Michael will be buried on August 29, which would have been his 51st birthday. The service will take place at 10am at Los Angeles’ Forest Lawn Memorial Park cemetery.

Reports: Lawyers for the estate want LA TOYA JACKSON to return lifted secret MJ tunes from her late brother’s computer hard drive!

Music mag Rolling Stone reports that the executors of the MICHAEL JACKSON estate have issued formal requests to his sister LaToya to retrieve computer hard drives she lifted from his computer.

According to Frank DiLeo, the late King of Pop’s manager, more than100 songs were recorded but never released with the potential multi-million tunes spanning the decades from the 1980s until just before The Gloved One’s sudden demise June 25.

Many of the songs were recorded during Jacko’s peak Bad and Thriller era with some of the most recent being collaborations with will.i.am, Akon and NeYo.

The legal team, sources say, want to retrieve the hard drives so that ALL the content can be properly recorded and logged.

What ELSE is on those drives remains a mystery known only to La Toya.

It was revealed last week the singer’s autopsy results have been delayed indefinitely

Insurers for MICHAEL JACKSONs “This Is It” 50-date London residency were astounded when the report they received from Dr. David Slavit declared the singer to be in perfect health, joking it appeared to have been “based on the body of an astronaut.”

Officials at insurers Robertson Taylor were puzzled as to why the ear, nose and throat specialist’s report made no mention of the “Thriller” star’s well-publicized health difficulties – including a severely burnt scalp, broken leg and extensive cosmetic surgery – and demanded their own tests be carried out before agreeing to insure his shows for promoters AEG Live.

An AEG spokesperson said:

AEG did not hire a doctor at any time in connection with securing insurance. Dr. David Slavit performed the medical exam which was submitted to the insurers as part of their underwriting.

AEG has never received a copy of Dr. Slavit’s medical exam. A second medical examination was scheduled in the UK when the tour arrived. The policy was issued in a fictitious name.

No one has actually seen Dr. Slavit’s original records of the medical and Robertson Jackson had wanted to do a full examination on July 11, the day after seeing the “Bad” hitmaker perform a planned full rehearsal at London’s O2 arena, where the shows were scheduled to take place.

However, because the star died of a suspected cardiac arrest on June 25 – after the insurance deal had been agreed but before “subject to” details had been verified – the promoters are now in dispute with the insurers over the validity of their agreement. The singer’s medical certificate had been issued in the name M. Jones, but this is said to be standard practice for celebrities to prevent any embarrassing personal health details leaking out.

It was revealed last week the singer’s autopsy results have been delayed indefinitely. It has been claimed the release has been postponed while police investigate Jackson’s death. A law enforcement source has claimed the delay is not the result of problems with the toxicology report or questions over how the case is being handled.

Court records show police are currently investigating whether Jackson’s personal physician Dr. Conrad Robert Murray — who was with the 50-year-old singer when he died of a suspected cardiac arrest last month and gave him CPR — had contact with other people in the medical field, including Dr. Slavit.
